Successful gardening depends on good topsoil.
Topsoil is the essential basic material for all landscaping restoration and garden projects. It is a complex mixture of organic and inorganic substances together with air, water and micro-organisms.
Organic matter or humus includes substances of both vegetable and animal origin, together with living micro-organisms. It has a major effect on the fertility of soil. Humus attracts earthworms which aerate and mix the soil which improves fertility, texture and structure.
Inorganic matter consists of three classes of mineral particle, the proportions of which determine the basic nature of the soil:
- Sand - particles ranging from 2.0mm down to 0.06mm
Good drainage but poor nutrient and misture retention - Silt - particles ranging from 0.06 down to 0.002mm.
Good at retaining moisture but more limited nutrient holding capability - Clay - particles of less than 0.002mm
Good moisture and nutrient retention due to enormous surface area offered by such small particles. Poor drainage characteristics.
Topsoil can be delivered in loose bulk loads, bulk bags and 25Kg bags. Delivery can normally be made within five working days

At Woodland we are able to calculate the appropriate amounts of material needed for varying projects.
We will also modify the topsoil to meet individual requirements of your existing soil and to add the necessary amounts of organic matter for optimum fertility.New build homes:
Apply to 20cms depth for construction of new flower or vegetable beds.Lawns – apply to a depth of 10 cms.
Creating or raising flower beds:
Addition of Woodland Topsoil provides additional nutrients and a rich source of fresh organic matter which will rejuvenate “tired” soil and restore its structure.Creating or leveling lawns:
Spread Woodland Topsoil over the area, level and firm prior to seeding or laying turf. Correct low areas on an existing lawn by making two cuts in the surface at 90 degrees and peeling back the turf. Apply soil until required level is achieved then replace turf and water thoroughly.Installing rockeries
